FIDM Grad Ellen Jantzen's Artwork is Displayed as a Billboard on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles

Fashion Design Grad Ellen Jantzen is one of 34 guest artists to have her work displayed as a billboard in Los Angeles by the Billboard Creative throughout the month of February. Located at 905 N. Fairfax Avenue, between Romaine Street and Willoughby Avenue in West Hollywood, the billboard features Ellen’s photo, “To Have and Have Not.”

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Ellen obtained a degree in Graphic Arts before spending two years at FIDM’s Los Angeles campus. After graduating in 1992, she worked in the industry for several years, including at Mattel Toy Company where she was trained in computer design as a Senior Project Designer. But she decided to leave the corporate world behind for a life of creative expression.

As digital technology advanced and newer cameras produced excellent resolution, Ellen found her perfect medium. Describing her work as “photo montage,” she’s created works that bridge the world of prints, photography, and collage since the early 2000s. “I create two-dimensional imagery as limited edition prints using my computer and a variety of drawing and photography software,” she said. “My work provides a link between traditional and digital art forms.”

Her recent accolades include winning first place in the 14th Pollux Award Professional Digital Manipulation category for her series "Mid+West" and the Bronze Award in the Fine Arts Special Effects category at the Tokyo International Foto Awards for her series “Unexpected Geology.” Ellen is currently represented by Susan Spiritus Gallery in Irvine, California, Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri, and Edition One Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
